This three-day course provides an overview of the fundamental concepts and technologies of modern spacecraft liquid propellant rocket engines. The course will focus on application of fundamentals of rocketry, thermo-chemistry, fluid mechanics and heat transfer to design, analysis, testing and operation of pressure-fed, earth-storable, liquid propellant thrusters. Thrusters used in monopropellant, bipropellant and dual mode propulsion systems as well as green propellant propulsion systems  will be discussed. Emphasis will be on thrusters used in propulsion systems  for earth-orbiting satellites.

What You Will Learn:

Pressure-fed liquid propellant rocket engines are and will continue to be used in spacecraft propulsion systems. Understanding of basic principles of rocketry, thermo-chemistry, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer and their application to design, analysis, and testing of these thrusters is the key not only to satellite nominal operations but also to recovering from some off-nominal situations. In addition to accomplishing these objectives, this course will enable the participants to better converse with spacecraft subsystem specialists, mission planners, designers, and operators.

Extensive set of course notes developed by the instructor provide concise reference on pressure-fed, monopropellant, bipropellant, dual mode, and secondary combustion augmented thrusters. The course covers:
